Baseball Season and the Community

Baseball season is always looked forward to by the community. The sun which greets with all its warmth, the exciting view of green grass, the thud of the ball meeting a bat, the awesome crowd of fans, the smell of hotdogs and popcorn, are all great attractions to the viewers. But the most electrifying attraction of the baseball season is of course the game of baseball itself.

World War 11 had a great effect on baseball and the community. Best baseball players left the sport to battle for their country. This opened up chances for players to join the majors, who otherwise would never have got an opportunity. With this the All-American Girls Baseball League was also introduced. Baseball was also introduced to many countries in Europe, Asia and Africa.

Baseball had its effect on the community from the early 1900’s. People from all over the land came to the town, to play and view baseball. While there, they strived to settle down by finding jobs and life partners. Baseball thus gave a hand towards making families that otherwise would not have happened. Baseball brought together people of all races, castes and creed.

If any American gazes at a mirror, their reflection would most probably carry a baseball cap. Many may not even play the sport, some may even never have watched a baseball game in action but yet all Americans, sometime or another, participate in the national pastime, sometimes without even knowing they are doing so.

Baseball has always been a part of culture even in the 1860s. From baseball being recognized in art, story and song, today baseball images and even the ever-present baseball cap fill the country and world. Baseball and its heroes are becoming a figure of culture, through which the world recognizes and defines America.

From preschoolers who sing the famous song, ‘Take me out to the Ball game’, to executives who make ‘ballpark estimates’. Politicians use the phrase, ‘Three strikes and you are out’ in their speeches more often than not. Many citizens quote from the baseball movie, ‘Who is on first’.

The Major League Baseball is currently engaged in many community efforts. With every passing year, they aim to expand and reach more causes and individuals.  Thou the league may not be able to reach every needing individual through their charity work, they are resolute to reach as many individuals, families and communities as possible.

The above are a few of the many effects baseball has had on the community, and will continue to do so, bringing on a greater impact on the society.
