An Interview with Dr. Eric G. Vogel on Invisalign

Dr. Eric G. Vogel is a dentist and has answered some of the common questions Bizymoms visitors have about Invisalign.

Q. What is an invisalign?

A. Invisalign is a unique way of moving teeth.  The dentist simply makes an impression of the teeth and sends them into invisalign.  They will do a scan of the model and tell  the dentist if the case is well suited to invisalign therapy or not.  If the case is accepted then invisalign will digitize the models and use a computer based design and manufacturing process (CAD/CAM) to build a series of clear templates that will guide the teeth from their current position to the desired position.  The templates are changed every two weeks and usually the patient only needs to see the dentist about every 6-8 weeks.  The clear trays are nearly invisible and easy to get used to wearing.  During treatment the teeth are easier to keep clean than they would be with traditional braces.

Q. How does invisalign work?

A. Invisalign uses clear trays to guide the teeth into their proper position.  All of the treatment is planned on the computer before initializing treatment

Q. What are the primary benefits of invisalign?

A. Invisalign is much less visible than conventional braces.  There is probably less overall pain than conventional braces.  You can clean your teeth better since the clear templates are removable.

Q. How long does invisalign treatment take?

A. The severity of the case will dictate the treatment time.  A simple case may take as few as 3-6 months.  A complex case may take 2 years or more.

Q. How much does invisalign cost?

A. Invisalign is slightly more expensive than conventional braces in most offices.

Q. Who uses invisalign?

A. Invisalign can be done by any certified dentist.  Some cases are better suited to invisalign therapy than others.  It is best to have the dentist carefully review your case and decide if you are a good candidate for invisalign therapy.

Q. Are there certain dental conditions that automatically exclude someone from being an eligible patient?

A. Someone with active gum disease.  Someone with a history of root resorbtion.  Someone who is non-compliant and not willing to wear the trays faithfully.

Q. How to contact Dr. Vogel  if we have further questions?
