Well, there are 2 popular types of promotions that you can avail of when shopping online. One is ‘coupon codes’ and ‘promotional codes’. A lot of online stores generally give you one of these codes whenever they’re carrying out a promotion online.

A linked coupon doesn’t exactly have a code or anything like that, but instead directs you to a link to activate the coupon. When you click that link, you can avail of the discount when you hit the ‘purchase’ button!
How can you use a coupon code?
It mainly depends on the store concerned. There may be different places where you enter the coupon code. In places like eBay, the code can be entered when you’re ‘checking out’ the goods. In other instances, the code is typed in the page which confirms your order before you check out. Make sure that you know where you have to submit the code when you avail of it.
What if you can’t find the place to type the code?
Have a look at the FAQ. Most websites have a list of questions, and this problem may be addressed in the FAQ. In some websites, they may have the answer in the ‘customer service’ page. If you can’t seem to find it anywhere, call up the merchant and ask them how to use the coupon code on their website?
How can you find out if the coupon code is working?
Generally, the order review page will show the price of the item you are purchasing, the discount that you’re getting by applying the code and the shipping costs. If you have already entered the coupon code but don’t see the discount, it means that your code isn’t working.

You can, however, increase your savings by trying to get a rebate on the stuff that you purchase with a coupon code. You’ll be able to find rebates easily on electronic items. If you can’t find the rebate online, call up the merchant and ask him whether a rebate can be obtained for the item you are about to purchase.
