Portland extends on both sides of the river Willamette. The city boasts of a number of parks and is recognized for preserving open spaces. Living in the city one can enjoy warm, sunny, dry summers and mild to cold and moist winters. It is a major center for hosting events such as the Portland Zine Symposium and also has a number of performing arts institutions like the Oregon Ballet Theater, Oregon Symphony, Portland Center Stage, and the Portland Opera. Portland has many options for shopping. Some of the wells known shopping areas are Downtown Portland, N.W. 23rd Avenue, Pearl District, and the Lloyd District.
