An Interview with Dr. Ronald Iverson on Tummy Tuck
Dr. Ronald Iverson is a plastic surgeon and has answered some of the common questions Bizymoms visitors have about Tummy Tuck.
Q. What is a Tummy Tuck?
A. A Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) is a procedure that removes fat, tightens muscles and removes sagging skin. People who would benefit from this procedure are people who have lost weight and carry extra skin or just carry extra weight and fat in their mid- section. Many patients that come to my office have combined this surgery with another procedure called Mastopexy or Breast Lift. Combining both procedures is frequently referred to as a "Mommy Makeover". Women who have had children and want to have their bodies back are very happy after having this performed.
Q. How long does a Tummy Tuck surgery take?
A. The procedure usually takes 2 ½ hours. As far as the total time in the surgery center a patient can expect approximately ½ day and then plan to go home with a friend or relative.
Q. What are the risks or complications with Tummy Tuck?
A. There are always risks with all surgeries. It is important to select a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon as the first step in assuring that the risk of complications will be rare. The most common problems are infection or bleeding after the procedure.
Q. What should I expect after the operation?
A. Approximately 2-4 weeks after surgery, which can varies from patient to patient, you will notice a change in your body measurements and this process will continue for the next few months. You can expect that even after 6 months with a good diet and exercise to continue to improve your body after having a Tummy Tuck.
Q. How much does a Tummy Tuck cost?
A. Fees for a Tummy Tuck are approximately $10,000. For patients that are good candidates for a modified Tummy Tuck, which is less surgery than a full-Tummy Tuck, you can plan to pay about $8,000. A modified Tummy Tuck is determined after a patient has a consultation and it includes various options of skin and fat removal.
Q. How long do the results of a Tummy Tuck last?
A. Your results last for many years as long as your body composition remains the same.
It is important to control your weight and have a healthy life style after surgery.
