An Interview with Dr. Ronald E. Iverson on Breast Lifting

Dr. Ronald E. Iverson is a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Here the Doctor has answered some of the common questions Bizymoms visitors have about Breast Lifting.

Q. What is a Breast Lift?

A. A Breast Lift or Mastopexy is a procedure that lifts the breasts. Many patients combine the Mastopexy procedure with Saline or Gel Implants to achieve more fullness.  Combining both procedures is frequently referred to as Mastopexy with Breast Implant.

Q. How is Breast Lift Surgery Done?

A. A Mastopexy is a procedure that lifts the breasts by removing saggy skin and repositioning the nipple to the original location. The scars that result from the lift vary and are determined at the time of the consultation. The procedure usually takes 2 hours.  As far as the total time in the surgery center a patient can expect approximately ½ day and then plan to go home with a friend or relative.

Q. What is the recovery period for Breast Lift?

A. The recovery is approximately 1 month but after 1 week, you can return to normal "light" activities. It is important to not push, pull, reach or jeopardize the healing process during this time.  There are a few appointments after surgery to assure that everything is healing well and patients can expect stitches to be removed by the third week following surgery.

Q. Who is an ideal candidate for breast lift surgery?

A. Ideal candidates are patients that have "ptosis" or sagginess to their breast. Women who have had children and notice changes to their breasts due to breast-feeding or weight changes commonly are good candidates for this procedure.

Q. What are the risks or complications with Breast Lift?

A. There are always risks with all surgeries.  It is important to select a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon as the first step in assuring that the risk of complications will be rare.
The most common problems are infection or bleeding after the procedure.

Q. How long do the results of a Breast Lift last?

A. Your results last for many years as long as your body composition remains the same.
It is important to control your weight and have a healthy life style after surgery.

Q. How much does a Breast Lift cost??

A. Fees for a Breast Lift are approximately $7,000.  Patients who elect to have implants at the same time as the Mastopexy, will pay about $2,000-$3,000 more.
