Q. What is a Mommy Makeover? And What are the Options for the Mommy Makeover?
A. A Mommy Makeover is a combination of procedures that address the areas of the body that are most affected by pregnancy, mainly focusing on the breast and abdomen. Most women notice a change in breast size and shape, often sagging of the breasts due to pregnancy and/or breastfeeding. Breast procedures include breast augmentation with either a saline or silicone implant, breast lift with or without an implant and breast reduction. The abdomen is also affected because the "six pack" muscles and skin stretch out, often leaving loose skin and stretch marks. This is corrected with a tummy tuck or mini tummy tuck and often involves liposuction for sculpting.
A Mommy Makeover may also include facial surgery and non invasive procedures like Botox and Fillers.
Q. Who is a good candidate for Mommy Makeover?
A. Any woman who has finished having children and wants to look and feel better by getting her pre baby body back and does not have any major medical problems. It is also best to stop smoking 6 weeks before and after surgery for healing purposes.
Q. What are the important facts about the safety and risks of the Mommy Makeover?
A. Generally, a mommy makeover procedure is safe. Be sure your surgeon is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Although complications are rare, they can occur. In general, the main risks are bleeding, infection, scarring, implant leak or palpability / rippling, implant malposition, capsular contracture, asymmetry, loss of nipple sensitivity, blood clots, and need for revision surgery.
Q. What happens during the Mommy Makeover surgery?
A. A mommy makeover surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia.
Breast surgery and abdominal shaping surgeries are the main components of a mommy makeover. Breast surgery can include breast augmentation with a saline or silicone implant, breast lift with our without implants, or breast reduction. Abdominal surgery will include a full tummy tuck or a mini tummy tuck and usually involves liposuction of the flanks (muffin tops).
Q. What is the recovery time for Mommy Makeover?
A. Recovery time depends on the procedures performed. Generally for breast surgery, 4-7 days off from work and 2-3 weeks before getting back to physical exercise. For tummy tuck, recovery is a little longer, approximately 2 weeks off from work and 6-8 weeks before getting back to the gym.
Q. How much will the Mommy Makeover cost?
A. Depending on the procedures, type of implant, facility and overnight stay, the total cost for a mommy makeover (breast surgery and tummy tuck / liposuction) will range somewhere between $9000 to $17,000.
