In an attempt to find new and legal ways to get high, local leaders say teens are snorting, smoking, or even injecting an over-the-counter product called bath salts.

Labeled as 'bath salts'; packets of powder sold over the counter are the new product local drug advocates fear the most.

Sold to look like they could be mixed with a hot bath as a way to relax, officials say kids are snorting, smoking or injecting them to get high. 

"I think the scary part of it is that they're labeling it as something as simple as bath salts," Emily Castillo, with the David Lawrence Center said.

"The packaging of it looks like bath salts with the powdery substance inside is providing effects like cocaine," Maribel Dearmas with Drug Free Collier said.

Sold with items like herbal incense and synthetic marijuana, local drug advocates say they've seen abuse of bath salts increase in the New Year.

"It's a very high, high and very harsh low - paranoia, seizures, insomnia as well," Dearmas said.

Some states are discussing banning the synthetic substance, but for now, officials are warning parents to be on the lookout.
