An Interview with Dr. Jeffrey Rosenberg on Teeth Whitening

Dr. Jeffrey Rosenberg is a dentist  who has answered some of the common questions Bizymoms visitors have about Teeth Whitening.

Q. What is tooth whitening?

A. Tooth whitening is a process to brighten teeth by removing stains and discolorations inside teeth through the chemical process of oxidation. The process is very similar to coloring hair. A peroxide based chemistry is applied to the teeth, either with or without the assistance of an accelerator such as a light source – as used in the "Zoom" process.

Q. Who may benefit from teeth whitening?

A. Just about everyone from the age of 15 years old and up can benefit from tooth whitening. It is a very conservative, economic method to improve a smile.

Q. Who are not recommended to undergo teeth whitening?

A. People who have several crowns and large fillings are not good candidates as restorations do not change from the tooth whitening process.

Q. What does tooth whitening involve?

A.Tooth whitening involves 2 approaches. Whitening can be done at home and the office, but maintenance of a whitened smile always takes place at home due to the minor cost and time involved. Because of the maintenance needed to keep a whitened smile looking its best, our practice usually recommends a combination of office and home whitening. In our practice, very specialized trays are made to fit the mouth and the whitening chemistry is applied at home to these trays for three ten minute sessions for 7 days straight.

Q. How long does this take?

A. The office application of whitening materials is done in three 20 minute sessions under the assistance of an accelerator source such as the Zoom light.

Q. How much does tooth whitening cost?

A. At home whitening is $189. Zoom whitening is $395. Deep whitening is $1250.

Q. What are the side effects?

A. There is temporary sensitivity of the teeth and gums. This sensitivity is reversible and never lasts longer than 24 hours and is controlled by use of Motrin or Tylenol.

Q. How to contact Dr. Rosenberg  if we have further questions?
