An Interview with Dr. Edward A. Noland on Lumineers
Dr. Edward A. Noland is a dentist and has answered some of the common questions Bizymoms visitors have about Lumineers.
Q. What are Lumineers?
A. Lumineers are ultra-thin veneers that are bonded to the front surface of the teeth. They can be used to change the color of the teeth, straighten crooked teeth, close spaces, and repair chipped or misshapen teeth.
Q. How are Lumineers different from traditional veneers?
A. This is a great question. With traditional veneers a pretty good bit of natural tooth structure must be removed to make room for the veneers. This, of course, means that you have to be numb and must have temporary veneers until the permanent ones are ready. It also means that the procedure is irreversible. With Lumineers, there may be some small amount of re-contouring necessary, but anesthesia is rarely needed. They're also reversible, meaning that your natural tooth is still under there (just in case chipped or discolored ever comes back in style!).
Q. Is the Lumineers procedure painful?
A. No. However, if you have very sensitive teeth to begin with and some shaping of the teeth is needed, you may feel more comfortable being numb.
Q. Can one get Lumineers instead of braces?
A. The answer is "sometimes." I love Lumineers, but you should always be careful when one thing looks like the answer to all problems. There are certainly times when braces are the best answer, but this is something we can discuss at your free consultation visit.
Q. How long will Lumineers last?
A. According to the Lumineers website (lumineers.com), they can last for 20 years or longer. They also have a limited lifetime warranty.
Q. Can Lumineers be taken off if I want them removed?
A. Yes. Since there is usually no removal of your own tooth structure, they can be removed.
Q. How much do Lumineers cost?
A. Good question. Lumineers can cost between $800 per tooth to $1500 or more per tooth, depending on the dentist who is placing them. An important thing to remember is that there is only one lab (Denmat) that makes them, so we're all getting them from exactly the same place.
Q. How to contact Dr. Noland if we have further questions?
A. You may schedule your free consultation with us by calling 850-477-8524.
