Celebrating Motherhood
Brittany Birnel is the mom behind the blog Tangled and True. Currently residing in the Pacific Northwest, the Rocky Mountains (specifically Denver, Colorado) will soon be her new home. She is the mom to three little ones, Lily (5) Stella (3) and Finn (1). In her spare time she enjoys planning parties, cooking, vacations at the beach and spending time with her husband and kids.

1. What makes you most excited and happy about being a mother?

Watching my kids grow and accomplish things. Stella finally being able to perform that one dance move, Lily reading books, Finn taking his first steps. To see their little faces light up; it's one of the best parts of being a mom.

2. Please tell us about your parenting style.

I am strict. They don't get away with much. Screaming and melting down will get you nowhere with me. That being said, I love to be silly with my kids. We dance and sing in the car, make up crazy stories as we grocery shop, put on performances for each other. I want them to remember that I was hands-on as well as making sure they were doing what they were supposed to. It's definitely a delicate balance and I don't always succeed, but I keep trying.

3. What special tips can you offer our readers on parenting?

Play with your kids, laugh with them and have fun. They are only young once. I have to tell myself all the time, that they aren't going to remember if our house was perfectly clean, or if they had gourmet meals every night. What they will remember are the times I stopped what I was doing to help them, or be with them in the moment. It's hard to do, but I believe it will pay off big.

4. Do you believe in celebrating motherhood?

As a mom, how pampered do you want to get from your family? I believe that motherhood is definitely something to be celebrated. What an amazing role we have as women, to love and nurture these innocent little children. While I love to be pampered, I definitely think there are other ways to celebrate motherhood. One of my favorites is always looking to find joy in the simple things. Hearing the kids laugh, listening to them play pretend, the prayers they say at the end of the day. As a mom of three small children, it's the times that I stop and pay attention to the simplest of things that I find the most reason to celebrate.

5. How important do you think it is for moms to dress and look nice?

This is a good question. In all things there is a balance. I tend to error on the side of being lazy most days. It's not something I'm proud of; it's just the way it is. As the kids get older I hope to be a little better at this.

6. Almost all of the clothes you have showcased on your blog are amazingly pretty. How do you select such nice ones? What special traits do you look for?

Thank you. I don't know that I have any special traits. I have a few key shops that I love and I spend a good amount of time browsing the Internet book marking things that catch my eye. I tend to like things that are simple and won't go out of style immediately.

7. How can our readers participate in your monthly giveaways?

The monthly giveaways are very easy to participate in. Simply leave a comment with your name and you're entered. It's that easy and I always love lots of entries, so stop by and join in on the fun!
