Challenges Single Parents Have to Go Through

Life is full of challenges everyone faces and for single parents who are working with hectic schedules, to keep afloat is itself a challenge.

Balancing their lives from work to home, being mum and dad is no easy task. Taking care of the children, providing for them and being the disciplinarian and friend are some of the challenges to be faced.

Biggest challenge they have to face is financial. Most single parents do not have the luxury of being stay at home moms unless they are financially well off. The others have to go to work.  Some single parents may be eligible for welfare but for those who are not, and are living just above poverty line, living from pay check to pay check poses a big challenge. To be able to go to work, whether be one job or two jobs a day they need to find child minders for low fee which itself is a challenge, unless the proper support system of extended family are available. Otherwise they are at the mercy of day cares which cost the moon and stars and will take away most of their earnings. To better their living standards, enhancing their qualifications would be a good thing to do but whether the means and the infrastructure will be available is a challenge.

A single parent has to return from their day job to the unpaid second job at home. Doing all the household chores after a hard days work without help can prove to be another challenge, especially if the children are too young to help. Train them from their young days to do their own work and help around the house. As they grow older your life will become much easier.

Juggling through work and home will leave very little quality time with the children unless managed properly, and if not may lead to a new set of challenges. Keeping your children happy and finding fun things to do with them  at no cost or very little cost will be a challenge.

A single parent has very little time to be involved in the children’s school or other activities and you cannot downplay this challenge as school is the place they spend most of their time apart from home,

Being a disciplinarian is very important challenge faced by all single parents. Good parenting skills, patience, love, wisdom and understanding is important and above all instilling discipline in your children from the time they are young enough to understand will establish you as the disciplinarian.

Not having time for themselves is a challenge most single parents face and one cannot undermine its importance as this could lead to worsen the challenges already faced.
