How to Minimize Product Recall

When it comes to manufacturing goods, recalling products is never a good thing. Product recall is not only costly but it will also leave a mark on the white slate of the reputation of a company. There are many types of product recalls, but if the recall is of the size of an entire shipment or product line, then the very foundations of the organization will be put to the test.

The first and main reason for having to do a major product recall is totally due to carelessness. Manufactures take for granted that their products are of the highest quality. An organization should always double check on the products they are releasing to the market. Most product recalls happen with new products which are produced by the manufacturer. There can be many faults in a new product when it is being put to proper use. The product might work fine for a couple of months but after heavy use by the consumer, the product might not function according to the required specifications. Take for example food, if the product expires before the given date then it can cause a major health issue.

Transportation of goods is also a major donor toward having to recall products. The product might be shipped to a far of country. If the product is fragile then the product might get damaged due to transportation hazards. Climate is also a major issue for many products. Take for an example if the product is manufactured in a cold country (a country which has all four seasons), and if the product is used in a tropical country, then the product might not work properly due to the sudden climate changes.

Most of these issues can be sorted out by the manufactures. A product can be properly tested and retested to make sure that the product will function accordingly. Health issues are a very serious matter. A manufacturer might have to face law suites if the product has caused major health issues. Transportation is vital when it comes to distributing a product. But if transporting the product a long distance will cause the product to malfunction, then the manufacturer has four choices. One is to find an alternate means of transportation or two, to manufacture the product in such away that it will last the journey or three, to protect the product so that it will be delivered safely into the hands of the consumer or four, not to transport the product within long distances.

It is very difficult to keep product recall to a zero, but it is possible to minimize product recall so that no major incidents will take place. The best way to do this is to make sure that all the products are tested and retested before it leaves the production facility. In overall, striving for high quality and maintaining it will decrease the possibility of any major product recalls.
