What To Do If You Think You Have Bought A Defective Product?

There are many products that we buy because we learn over the years that some of them are better than the rest. Some of us buy products because of the brand name, because the relevant brand name lives up to high standards and quality. But sometimes, even major organizations market faulty products. Sometimes you might be the unlucky person who bought the product, and often, you might not be the ONLY unlucky person!

If a product you bought does not work, please read through the manual (provide that you get one with the product). Try to understand the nature of the problem. If you can’t figure it out, take the faulty product to the sales person. If the product is faulty and you are within the warranty period, then you are in luck. But be warned, the sales persons point of view might be different to yours and the manufactures. The sales person might try to convince you that you have not used the product properly so in turn the product is not working any more (first do listen to the sales person; he/she might be right). If you’re certain that the product is not working because the product is faulty then try to convince the sales person otherwise.

Another problem many consumers face is the warranty period. The manual might say that you have the warranty for one year but the sales person might say that according to policy of the outlet they only provide a three months warranty period. This is a very common pit hole many consumers fall into. It will be very difficult to prove otherwise because, a sales person is a sales person - he/she is good at his or her job. If this is the issue, please do contact the relevant manufacturer. Explain to them the situation, most manufacturers tend to the problem immediately, because the product is their own and it’s their reputation which is at stake.

If it is not an isolated incident and the fault is with an entire batch of products or with the entire line of products, then the organization will come forward and notify regarding the issue. If the issue is with a certain batch, then the organization will be very willing to give back a full refund of the purchase price or replace the product with a new one. If the entire line of products is at fault, then the organization will definitely have no other option but to refund the money spent on the product by the consumer. If there is property damage, do contact the organization. Many organizations will be more than willing to compensate on the damage caused. If the organization is not willing to do so, contact the relevant government authorities regarding the problem.

Do remember no one is perfect, not even the manufacturers of your favorite brand. Don’t over react when your product is not working, think rationally and take the necessary steps so that you will get a full refund or a new product which is not faulty.
