An Interview with Dr. Paul Duryea on Braces
Dr. Paul Duryea is a dentist and has answered some of the common questions Bizymoms visitors have about Braces.
Q. Can one be too old for braces?
A. No. The biggest problem is that some patients with health problems are on certain medications that prohibit Orthodontics. In fact our oldest patient was 82 years young.
Q. How much does braces cost?
A. Thanks for a difficult question. It depends on the type of treatment, severity of the problem and length of treatment time. Ranges can be $700 for minor correction with retainers to $8,000, for severe and complex treatments. Most treatments are in the $5,500 range for a 2 year treatment.
Q. When will one begin to see changes in his/her teeth after the braces are put on?
A. Most patients will see a change within a week or two once in treatment.
Q. Will one need to have teeth extracted for braces?
A. The need to extract permanent teeth has decreased over the years due to new treatment modalities. But there are still some patients that require these extractions while in treatment to obtain a beautiful smile.
Q. How long will it take to complete the treatment?
A. Time in treatment can be as short as 6 months to over 4 years depending on the problem and how it is corrected.
Q. Can a person wear braces even though that person may have crowns and missing teeth?
A. Absolutely, we treat many patients with crowns and who have missing teeth. In fact as I mentioned, we many times will work in conjunction with their dentist to move teeth into better positions prior to Cosmetic procedures.
Q. How can I prevent my child from being embarrassed by wearing braces?
A. By having a positive attitude towards the treatment as the parent. Encourage your child to be proud of the braces and always discuss the treatment looking at the end result of obtaining a great smile.
Q. How to contact Dr. Duryea if we have further questions?
A.
