An Interview with Dr. Marjan Roshangar on Porcelain Veneers

Dr. Marjan Roshangar is a dentist and has answered some of the most common questions Bizymoms visitors have about Porcelain Veneers.

Q. What are porcelain veneers?

A. Porcelain veneers are thin wafers of porcelain that are bonded to the front of teeth. They can be used to restore worn or chipped teeth, to cover stained teeth (especially tetracycline stains), to close spaces between the teeth, or to lengthen the teeth. And they can also be an alternative to braces.

Q. How long to dental veneers last?

A. If they’re done right porcelain veneers will last for many years. How long they last also depends a lot on how well you take care of them.

Q. Do dental veneers require special care?

A. The porcelain wears as well as natural teeth and the bond between the laminate and tooth is very strong. Porcelain veneers are not designed to withstand sharp impacts and they can fracture.

Q. Are there alternatives to dental veneers?

A. Bonding is an excellent technique for small defects in one or two teeth.
Bonding can close a small gap, cover spots, chips, and discolorations, repair fractures, and re-shape teeth.

Q. Do veneers look natural?

A. In the hands of a well-trained dentist, veneers not only look natural but can enhance the original look of the teeth and smile.

Q. Does the veneer protect your tooth from decay?

A. The porcelain itself is immune to decay, but, the uncovered part of the tooth is still susceptible to decay. Consumption of carbonated drinks or lack of flossing and brushing will increase the chance of this happening.

Q. How much does veneer cost?

A. To be done correctly the procedure requires artistic sensitivity, additional training and an excellent lab. So the cost of veneers will vary.

Q. How to contact Dr. Roshangar if we have further questions?
