What you need to know about Endodontic Surgery procedures Norwalk
Endodontics procedures are carried out by introducing a metallic root in to the bone to replace the original now dead and cleaned out root. This procedure is called osseointegration which is a biological procedure which may take six to twelve months. The second part of this procedure is replacement of the original tooth crown with a clinical prosthetic crown.
Further, endodontist surgery will be performed to include repairing an injured or damaged root, dividing a tooth in half, or removing one or several roots at the same time. There is a procedure called replantation which allows the tooth to be removed, treated while its out of the patient’s mouth and replaced.

The word Endodontics comes from the Greek words “endo”, which means inside and “odons” which means tooth. Endodontics or “root canal” treatment is a relatively new type of treatment for teeth with diseased or injured roots. The root refers to the tooth pulp (which contains the nerves, venules, arterioles, lymphatic and fibrous tissue) which can become diseased or injured. Subsequent to the disease or injury, without treatment the pulp tissue dies. If the dead tissue is not removed the tooth will also decay and require removal. Endodontic treatment will help to save the tooth while cleaning out the diseased or injured tooth pulp.

These surgical procedures are carried out under local anaesthetics. You may experience a certain degree of discomfort and a slight swelling during the healing process of the incision as in any surgical procedure. Your Dentist or Endodontist will prescribe relevant pain medication subsequent to the procedure. The specific post-operative instructions should be discussed prior to the surgery with your Dentist or Endodontist.
Your expected recovery time should be discussed with your Dentist or Endodontist. Most often the patient is able to drive away after the procedure. However it would be preferable to have alternate transport arrangements ready in case the degree of discomfort you feel is higher than normal after an endodontic procedure.
Discuss the success rate of your surgery with your Dentist or Endodontist prior to the surgery. You can also discuss alternatives to endodontic surgery. The best is your natural tooth. Therefore what it takes to save the tooth is the best alternative for you. In other words endodontistry will benefit you in the long run.
