An Interview featuring Dr. Yael Halaas as a hair transplant surgeon on Bizymoms New York

Dr. Yael Halaas is a  Member of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery. Here the Doctor has answered some of the common questions Bizymoms visitors have about Hair transplant.

Q. Who would be a good candidate for hair transplant surgery?

Both men and women with thinning hair.

Q. How does hair transplantation work?

Donor hair is taken from areas of good density (like the back of the head) and carefully dissected under microscope and then transplanted to the area of thinning.  My office specializes in both the traditional "strip" technique and the very specialized Follicular Unit Extraction Method which is a virtually scarless technique.

Q. What can be done for people dissatisfied with previous mini/micrograft procedures?

Revision procedure can be performed either removing the grafts or thickening the denisty around the grafts to yield a more natural or aesthetically pleasing result.

Q. What are the possible harmful effects of Propecia and Rogaine?

Propecia has a small chance of causing any change in sexual libido or performance.  It is not indicated for use in women. Rogaine can cause a slight increase in facial hair which often is transient.

Q. How many grafts hairs are needed for hair transplant surgery?

This depends entirely on the patient’s needs and desired result.

Q. What are the advanced hair transplant techniques?

Designing the frontal hairline, eyebrow and eyelash transplants and transplants for female patients are all areas that demand a high level of skill and expertise.

Q. What are the new hair restoration treatments available for men and women?

Definitely Follicular Unit Extraction as described above and the use of Platelet Rich Plasma to promote growth and healing in the scalp.
