Cost factors of Endodontic treatment New Orleans

It is now possible to save a tooth through endodontic treatment which is commonly known and root canal treatment.

This procedure can be performed by a dentist or a qualified Endodontist, who has specialized in the field of endodotistry.

Root canals are complex with several small branches off the main canal. The root canals are cleaned and the infected and dead tissue from within the tooth is removed during a root canal treatment. Without this treatment, the tissue which surrounds the tooth will become infected and an abscess will be formed.

However, if the problem still persists after two root canal treatment, it will then be necessary to carry out an apicoectomy which is also called endodontic microsurgery. It is a surgical procedure which is used to remove the infection, caused by the failed root canal treatment. The cost could be $3,500 to $10,000 or more.

Cost factors of Endodontic treatment are dependent on many factors. The time spent for treatment by the Dentist or Endodontist (depending on the number of visits) and the technology used is taken into consideration to arrive at the cost of treatment.  The charges are also based on the number of root canals found in the tooth. The front tooth or incisors have only one root while the molars or rear teeth may have three or more. The roots in the teeth that lie between the incisors and molars vary but it is usually two root canals.  There could be other circumstances such as the existence of a crown or a bridge which is more difficult to work through. There could also be situations when some teeth have been severely broken down by past dental disease and it will be necessary to “build-up” before root canal treatment can even be started. This would also add to the cost factors.

Approximate charges for root canal treatment for a front tooth vary from $360 to $700 and the cost for endodontic treatment for rear teeth can be in the range of $600 to $910.

The charges would also depend on who is performing the procedure – whether it is carried out by a dentist or an Endodontist. It can be assumed that an Endodontist would charge 30% to 50% more than a Dentist, as they are specialized in Endodontics. It requires an additional two years of specializing after four years of dental college to be an Endodontist. Endotontist do not deal with any other dentistry apart from endodontics.

However, it is important for the patient to discuss the cost with the Dentist or the Endodontist to determine what is applicable to you. Regardless of the cost, endodontic treatment is able to save a tooth and that is priceless.
