| Veneer dentist : What to expect at your dentistry consultation on veneers New Orleans |
Veneer dentist; what you can expect from a visit to the dentist
In today’s “appearance conscious” world, it’s hard not to be concerned about the “quality” of your smile! Everyone certainly wants the million dollar smile that movie stars seem to possess. With porcelain veneers you may just be able to have the much coveted million dollar smile. Porcelain veneers are basically layers of porcelain that are fixed on to teeth using extremely strong dental bonding agents. This is very much similar to the way that fake nails may be affixed on to real ones.
Veneering is a fairly simple procedure; however, people tend to associate unpleasantness with a visit to the dentist. For most people, the reason for this “fear” generally arises from the fact that they are unaware of exactly what “goes on” during dental procedures.
Here’s what to expect during a veneering procedure;
Before proceeding, the dentist usually consults the patient and provides the patient with a basic “overview” of what is to take place during the veneering procedure. The dentist will also consult the patient as to the exact shade of the porcelain veneers. The total cost of the procedure will also be discussed; veneering is usually a rather costly procedure. A single veneer for a single tooth can actually come up to $500-$1000. Your dentist will also explain that veneering is permanent procedure that involves constant care and maintenance; although maintenance is quite similar to the maintenance of non-veneered teeth. Simply brushing and flossing on a regular basis should suffice.
The first step of the procedure is to numb the teeth and gums with local anesthesia so that you do not feel any pain during the procedure. The dentist then prepares the teeth for the application of veneers by first removing a small amount of enamel from the surface of the teeth. This minute amount of enamel is usually removed from the front surface of teeth. This is done by using a specially designed dental drill called a burr. This is so that the veneers can be firmly bonded in place. The amount of porcelain placed is equal to the amount of enamel that is removed. The dentist will then proceed to take a “mould-impression” of your teeth. This mould is prepared so that the veneers can be prepared accordingly. Fabricated dental veneers take about 1-3 weeks to prepare therefore, the dentist will be attaching temporary veneers onto your teeth until the “real” veneers arrive.
Your next appointment is likely to be once your specially prepared veneers have finally arrived. Before attaching the veneers your dentist will proceed to clean your teeth using an acid gel. The dental veneers will then be bonded to your teeth using a special bonding agent. The bonding or cementing agent is activated using the “curing light surface technique;” this is the procedure that will finally bond your veneers firmly in place. The hardened bonding agent is then polished to give a smooth and extremely natural look.
Your porcelain veneers will help you attain the million dollar smile with the help of perfectly sculpted yet natural looking teeth. In doing this procedure your dentist certainly is a sculptor somewhat!
