An Interview with Dr. Francesca Velasco on Orthodontics.

Dr. Francesca Velasco is a Dentist and and has answered some of the common questions bizymoms visitors  have about Orthodontics.

Q.  At what age should a parent take their child to an orthodontist?

A.  Orthodontic screenings are recommended at age 8 - 9, when commonly the child is in mixed dentition ( some decidious "baby" teeth and some permanent teeth). In my office all active patients receive a complimentary Orthodontic consultation.

Q.  What Steps Occur During Orthodontic Treatment?

A.  The initial step for orthdontic treatment is an Orthodontic Consultation, which consists in several diagnostic records and a comprehensive evaluation of the patient. Once it has been established that there is an indication for orthodontic treatment, initial records ( pictures, radiographs and impressions ( molds of teeth) are taken. Orthodontic treatment varies from  patient to patient and their own needs and expectations. At our office we offer a variety of Orthodontic Treatments; such as metal braces, ceramic braces and Invisalign Treatment.

Q.  How does orthodontic treatment work?

A.  Orthodontic treatment length varies with each case. An average of treatment is from 16 - 18 months. Typically patients having orthodontic braces ( metal or ceramic ), get them on on their first or second visit after records are taken. The "brackets" are bonded ( glued) to the teeth and a wire connects all the teeth together to initiate simultaneous movement of the teeth.

Q.  Will insurance cover orthodontic treatment?

A.  Yes, Private insurance carriers offer a diverse orthodontic coverage. Typically is a "add on" to a traditional dental insurance policy. My staff will assist new patients in verifying Dental and Orthodontic Insurance Benefits.

Q.  How to contact Dr. Velasco if we have further questions?

A.  Our office is located at 3500 Behrman Place, New Orleans - LA 70114
