An Interview with Dr. Cecil Lamberton on Tooth Whitening

Dr. Cecil Lamberton is a dentist and has answered some common questions Bizymoms visitors have about Teeth Whitening.

Q. What is teeth whitening?

A. It is a procedure that cleans out organic material from the tooth that accumulates over time. Depending upon the severity and reason for the stains we have several options from different strengths of bleach to laser bleaching. We have had great success with bleaching of our patients teeth,

Q. Who may benefit from teeth whitening?

A. Most people can benefit if they don’t like the color of their teeth.

Q. Who are not recommended to undergo teeth whitening?

A. Children under 14 years old and pregnant and nursing mothers. ALso procelain will not bleach, so if someone already has a restoration in the front of their smile, they may have to redo it if the other teeth change drmamtically.

Q. What does teeth whitening involve?

A. It involves either impressions to make a custom tray for the patient to wear at their home, or it involves 2 hours in the office to have laser therapy done. Or if the stains are stubborn some protocols call for home bleaching and laser treatment.

Q. How long does this take?

A. It depends again on the severity of the stain, but if the home method is done, your teeth should be pretty white in 2 to 3 weeks.. The laser therapy is 2 hours in the office.

Q. How much does teeth whitening cost?

A. Again, it depends upon the method, but it can be between 400 to 1200 dollars.

Q. What are the side effects?

A. Sensitivity of teeth during the procedure, is the most common side effect. This happens in about 30 oercent of patients, but we do have teeth desensitizers and flouride that help with this. It is not a lasting effect and goes away fairly soon.

Q. How can we contact Dr. Lamberton if we have further questions?

A. Please do call our office if you have any questions. We can be reached at (707) 257-7771.
