| The Treasure State of Montana happens to be the fourth largest in the United States and shares a border with Canada to the north. This state in the Western United states is home to many mountain ranges. This brought it the name of Montana which is derived from the Spanish term montaña which means "mountain." Other nicknames include "Big Sky Country," "Land of Shining Mountains," and the popular slogan "The Last Best Place." Montana ranks third in the list of the lowest population density. The economy of this mountainous state is based on farming, ranching, oil, lumber, tourism and hard rock mining. It is also known for its prime tourist attractions - Battle of Little Bighorn site, Glacier National Park and three entrances to the world famous Yellowstone National Park. Surprisingly, despite its large size, Montana doesn't have any major league sports franchises because of the contrastingly small population. Interestingly, the state animal is the Grizzly Bear! |
