An Interview with Dr. Kenneth J. Starcznski on Root Canal

Dr. Kenneth J. Starcznski is a dentist and has answered some of the common questions Bizymoms visitors have about Root Canal.

Q. What is root canal treatment?

A. The process of removing the infected nerve from the roots.  Then the tooth can be restored and saved vs. extracted (or removed).

Q. What does treatment involve?

A. Usually a couple of shorter visits preceded by some antibiotic to lessen the infection.

Q. What are the signs of needing endodontic treatment?

A. Pain, swelling, difficult to chew, these are most common.  Some anterior (front) teeth can also turn dark or gray.

Q. Are pain pills and antibiotics an acceptable substitute for root canal?

A. Pain pills and antibiotics treat the symptoms, in other words pain! The cause of the infection is the dying, infected nerve in the tooth.  The only way to eliminate the source is to remove it (i.e.: Root Canal Therapy).  However, the pain medications and the antibiotics are a vital part of the procedure.

Q. Are there alternative treatments for root canal?

A. If the tooth nerve is dying out and causing problems you have two choices
1 ) Root Canal and Restoration-Saving the tooth
2 ) Extraction or removing the tooth

Q. How much will the procedure cost?

A. Cost can vary depending on the number of canals (roots) in the tooth.

Q. Will the tooth need any special care or additional treatment?

A. Once the root canal is complete, and the restoration is finished (filling or crown etc), you are good to go!

Q. How to contact Dr. Starcznski if we have further questions?

A. Website (http://www.jonathandental.com/index.html), phone (952-541-9984) or stop by to say "HI"
