Q. What is Breast Reduction surgery?
A. It is a procedure to make the breasts smaller, lifted, and better shaped, similar to a breast lift, but with removal of more tissue.

Q. What are the risks involved of breast reduction surgery?
A. Usually this is a safe procedure, but rarely, there can be bleeding, infection, complete loss of sensation to the breast and nipples, poor scarring, and vascular (blood supply) problems causing the skin of the nipples to die, causing slow healing and the need for some reconstruction.
Q. What does breast reduction surgery involve?
A. First, one chooses the type of procedure (anchor scar; vertical; combination; whether or not to use implants, etc.). Then, the breasts are marked for the skin incisions and the nipple for lifting and reduction. Afer making the cuts, the breast tissue itself is excised and weighed to assure symmetry. Sometimes an implant is used for shape and finally, the skin is closed carefully to create the best scars.
Q. What should I expect after breast reduction surgery?
A. Pain is usually minimal and the sutures are removed after about a week. If the surgeon uses drains they are also removed then. The incisions are treated with various things – taping; silicone tape or grease applications; scar guard painting, etc – for several months for the best scar. At 4 months, the breasts begin to look the way they will end up looking, but fnal results can take a year.
Q. How much does a breast reduction cost?
A. Depends on what is done and whether an implant is used. Prices vary from surgeon to surgeon, and sometimes insurance may pay some of the costs, but in general a range would be from $5000 to $12,000.
