An Interview with Dr. Hamid A. Nassery on Porcelain Veneers.

Dr. Hamid A. Nassery is a dentist and has answered some common questions that Bizymoms visitors have about Porcelain Veneers.

Q.  What are porcelain veneers?

A.  If your teeth are badly stained, shaped or crooked - your smile may benefit from having veneers placed onto the surface of the affected teeth. In fact, Dr. Nassery is a leading specialist for veneers in the Miami Beach area - and an expert at improving teeth through the use of porcelain veneers.

With porcelain veneers you can mask such undesirable tooth defects as stains caused by tetracycline, an injured tooth or other defects that result from such procedures as a root canal. More so, veneers are ideal for masking discolored fillings found in the front of your mouth. Have a gap between your front teeth or a visibly chipped tooth? Real Smile specialist in porcelain veneers, Dr. Nassery can fix these too.
Veneers are simply thin pieces of porcelain or plastic that is cemented over the front of your teeth in order to change their color or shape. Porcelain veneers are primarily used on teeth with uneven surfaces or that are chipped, discolored, oddly shaped, unevenly spaced or crooked.

At our Miami Beach veneers practice, the procedure for implementing the porcelain veneers is remarkably simple. In fact, little anesthesia is needed. The advantages of veneers are many - as they have a longer life expectancy and color stability than bonding and are highly resistant to the permanent staining that can be caused by coffee, tea and cigarette smoking.

It should be noted, however, that porcelain veneers are usually irreversible once they are placed on the teeth. This is because a small amount of enamel must be removed from your teeth in order to accommodate the veneers’ shell.

Typically, it takes at least three appointments to have veneers completely installed. The first appointment is dedicated to diagnosis and treatment planning. The second is to prepare for the surgical procedure. And the final is to complete the bonding of the veneers.
During the tooth preparation visit, which usually last two to three hours, your teeth will be lightly buffed in order to make room for the slight additional thickness added by the porcelain veneers. Typically, about a half a millimeter of the tooth is removed. Depending on the individual, this may require a local anesthetic. It is also during this first visit that a mold of your teeth is taken and sent to our master technician for the creation of the porcelain veneers.

During your third visit, which also last about two hours, the veneers are placed onto the teeth using water or glycerine in order to ensure they fit and to get a sense of the shade and color. While the veneers are resting on your teeth, your dentist will adjust them with various shades of cement in order to match the color of your teeth.

When actually applying the veneers, the tooth will again be cleansed with a unique combination of chemicals that also work to finalize the bond. Using a special cement that is sandwiched between the veneer and the tooth and a light or laser, the catalyst will be released, the cement hardened and the bond completed.

Q.  How long to dental veneers last?

A.  10+  years.

Q.  Do dental veneers require special care?

A.  Following the procedure, a two-week period of adjustment will take place.
During this time you may notice a change of size or shape in your teeth. It is essential that you brush and floss daily. After this period, you will return to the Miami veneers office for a follow-up appointment.

Q.  Does the veneer protect one’s tooth from decay?

A.  No, patients must still brush and floss as normal as decay could possibly get underneath the veneer but not likely.

Q.  How much do veneers cost?

A.  $1500+

Q.  How can we contact Dr. Nassery for further information?
