| Massachusetts is a state which is located in the region of New England in the Northeast of the US. Rhode Island, New York, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont and the Atlantic Ocean border Massachusetts. The eastern part of the state consists mainly of suburban, urban and rural parts while Western Massachusetts is mainly rural. Massachusetts is the state with the highest population in the New England region. It has the 3rd highest GDP in the country. The economy of Massachusetts was initially dependent mainly on agriculture, fishing and trade with Europe. However, Massachusetts was changed into a manufacturing center in the period of the Industrial Revolution. The 20th century saw the economy of the state move from manufacturing to the service industry. Today, the state is the best in health care, higher education, financial services and high technology. The per capita income of Massachusetts was $47,702, which is the 4th highest per capita income in the country. |
