An Interview with Dr. Lawrence N. Gray on Breast Lifting

Dr. Lawrence N. Gray is a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Here the Doctor has answered some of the common questions Bizymoms visitors have about Breast Lifting.

Q. What is Breast Lifting? And how is breast lift surgery done?

A.  Breast lifting involves raising the nipple to its correct position with removal of loose skin. There are 3 types of skin removal, periareolar, circumvertical or anchor incision. Often an implant is used at the same time. Sometimes the actual breast gland is lifted and suspended superiorly from the chest wall.

Q. What is the recovery period like?

A. If no implant is used, there is mild discomfort for about 1 week

Q. Who is an ideal candidate for breast lift surgery?

A. An ideal candidate has finished having children, is a non smoker, is in good health and her weight is stable

Q. Are there risks and complications to a breast lift surgery?

A. There is a permanent scar. Bleeding and infection are minor risks.

Q. How long do the results last?

A. The length of the result is highly variable. If the patient gains weight or does not wear a bra, the sagging will recur quicker. If an implant is used or there is internal suspension the results will last longer

Q. How much does breast lift surgery cost?

A. The cost can range from $2000 for a periareolar lift under local to $ 8000 with an anchor incision and an implant with general anesthesia
