Looking beautiful and glamorous with dramatic styles and colorful patches of “makeup” on the face is a thing of the past. “Feeling” beautiful is in. To the confident woman of today, natural and organic cosmetics are a sure-pick. The temptation of beautiful celebrities advertising various brands of all things important in makeup today is great. The choice is a hard one. But the ingredients in products, definitely tips the balance. The woman with the purchasing power will go for the natural, most wholesome product on the market. This is especially true since manufacturers now concentrate on giving the best quality product. These products are readily available in the market and are cost effective, as well.

In addition to looking for natural ingredients the woman of today goes a step further. Checking for testing procedures and if the products are certified is nothing new. Animal tested products are not tolerated anymore. In fact, the opposite happens with women’s groups legally fighting such testing methods. The torture and adverse effects the testing have on animals are highlighted. The ethics of the manufacturing process of makeup is constantly questioned. Many an article or television documentary is dedicated to the protection of animals, and advocacy of banning such testing methods completely is gaining momentum.

Natural and organic cosmetics on the other hand rarely require animal testing. Even though some makeup may contain animal by-products such as bees wax, it is not harvested in a way that harms the insect. Most natural and organic cosmetics contain vegetable and fruit extracts as well as minerals. Testing methods for these products are chemical. Thanks to science understanding skin types, brewing concoctions that enhance natural attributes of the skin can be mechanically and scientifically established. Increasing the moisture levels of the skin, controlling moisture, blocking the sun’s harmful UV rays, etc. does not require an animal to be tested on. The types of colors that match a certain skin type and skin color can be digitally established. Once the side effects or value of the product is recognized and the consumer cautioned, the rest is basically up to the consumer. The manufacturer will only advertise the features. A popular patron might promote, recommend and advise regarding the product. But the final choice of purchase and use is given to the consumer.

Buying guilt-free leads to constantly questioning the ethics of the manufacturing and testing process of cosmetics. In fact this is expected. The more controversial, the more publicity a product would receive. Be it natural and organic or chemically enhanced with animal products and by-products added, the educated consumer has the choice at the end of the day.
