Practice makes perfect is absolutely true when it comes to eye makeup application. Natural eye makeup is the most sought after today. However, the first step to the most suitable eye makeup for you is to understand the shape of your face. Take the time to understand the combination of face shape, eye shape and eye color, and skin tone. Then purchase the required mascara, eyeliner and eye shadow powder. Experiment with the make p to find the most suitable style for your face.

One can measure the face, use a mirror to draw out the outline of the face on it or get expert advice to determine the shape of your face. There are five commonly recognized or generalized facial shapes, i.e. oval (considered the perfect face shape), round, square, heart, and long.

The perfectly symmetrical oval shape usually has perfectly placed eyes. You can use eyeliner on both upper and lower lids with a smattering of eye shadow to compliment the eye color. Mascara use will depend on the lash thickness and length.

The round face would benefit with a thicker upper liner. Use an eye shadow that compliments the skin tone and eye color to accentuate the eye width. Make a more pronounced application of eyeshadow towards the end of the eyebrow from the end of the eye, sweeping upward. This will give the illusion of height to balance the round face.

The square face is tricky. Check on the shape of your eyes carefully in order to apply makeup. The color and shape of the eye will make a difference. Little makeup would benefit the square face, especially around the eyes, even though generously used blush would help in muting the square-ness of the face.

The heart-shaped face can take a lot of color around the eyes due to the pointy-ness of the chin area. However, the shape and color of the eyes make a difference. Carefully take this into account before experimenting with bright colors. Once you are sure of the colors and have a steady hand, paint away.

The long face requires defined eyes, but less color above the eyes. Use eyeliner on the lower lid and mascara generously. Depending on the shape and color of the eyes, use an eyeshadow on the lower and upper lid in a line.

Along with makeup, there are a few useful tools that complete your natural eye makeup kit. An eyelash curler will help curl your lashes and give your eyes a wider look while framing them. The Q-tip will help wipe away excess or smudges. When using eyeliner on the upper lid a Q-tip can also be used as a “smudger” if your eyeliner pencil does not come with one. A lash brush can be used to give your lashes a sweep to remove any clumping of lashes after the applied mascara dries.

For the finishing touch the eyebrows may need to be shaped, especially after waxing, threading or plucking. Use a sharpened eyebrow pencil to shape and darken the brow. Another tool you will require is a sharpener. Use a brow sealer after shaping and darkening the brow for the perfectly shaped eyebrow.
