An Interview with Dr. Thomas K Tyre on Dentures
Dr. Thomas K Tyre is a dentist and has answered some of the common questions Bizymoms visitors have about Dentures.
Q. What are dentures?
A. Dentures are artificial teeth, a prosthesis which replaces missing teeth. They can be complete (all the teeth), or some of the teeth.
Q. Why should I use a denture adhesive?
A. Some people don't need adhesives. Some people have little or nothing to hold a denture in and the adhesive helps the denture stick to the gum.
Q. What types of cosmetic dentures are possible? How long do cosmetic dentures take to make? And what are the alternatives to cosmetic dentures?
A. I have no idea what a "cosmetic denture" is. A temporary waiting for healing? A denture with just front teeth? I need a better question here.
Q. Are dentures uncomfortable or painful to wear?
A. Like ANY artificial device, a denture normally requires a learning curve. Each person's experience will be different. The major factors are the skill of people making the denture, the anatomy of the patients jaws and gums, and the patient's dedication to get used to the denture.
Q. What's the difference between conventional dentures and immediate dentures?
A. An immediate denture is made prior to the teeth being removed and placed at time of surgery (not the best way to do it, too many guesses and too much change later).
Q. How to contact Dr.Tyre if we have further questions?
A. I can be reached through the web site, Painlsdoc@aol.com, or 502 366 7388.
