Q : What are Invisalign braces?
A : Invisalign braces are a clear aligner system. These braces are made up of clear, removable trays. They are also custom made for each person. We take impressions or molds of the patient’s teeth and they are fabricated at the Invisalign lab. The lab makes a series of these trays or aligners and the patient wears them over a time period. They will wear each set for about two weeks continuously for about 20 to 22 hours a day. The key for this treatment to work is the commitment and cooperation of the patient. The more that the patient wears the aligner, the more successful the treatment will be. The results of Invisalign depend on the patient. Once the teeth look good to the patient and the doctor, retainers are ordered. These are very similar to the clear aligners. Retainers are a lifetime commitment and are usually worn nightly.
Q : What are the benefits of Invisalign braces?
A : The most significant benefits of the Invisalign system are that they are removable and invisible. We see a lot of adults who were orthodontic patients as teenagers. In most cases, they stopped wearing their retainers which eventually caused their teeth to shift.
Many of these adults are professionals now and with their career demands, they simply don’t want to go back to braces. Invisalign is a great option for such adults since the braces are clear.
