Q : What is Cosmetic Dentistry?
A : An example of cosmetic dentistry is the replacement of simple fillings that are discolored, leaking or failing. Some of the more complex issues addressed by cosmetic dentistry include situations where someone is hesitant or embarrassed about smiling and have trained themselves to hide their smile.

Cosmetic dentistry also includes whitening, veneers, crowns, orthodontics and periodontics. In other words, the term includes anything that can help enhance a person's smile.

Q : What is a composite resin veneer? How does it differ from a porcelain veneer?
A : Composite resin veneers are made of a plastic material composite known as resin. It is bonded to the tooth by gluing it onto the tooth structure. However, the weakness of composite veneers comes from the characteristics of the composite itself. Resin is more prone to wear and doesn’t have the dimensional stability that ceramic does.

Porcelain veneers are made of ceramic whereas a composite veneer is made of resin or plastic. Unlike composite resin veneers, porcelain veneers are known to look more vibrant and much more life-like. This is because they reflect light in a manner similar to tooth structure. When somebody smiles, we see the way in which light is reflected from the tooth structure. Ceramic and composite reflect light in different ways which is why the smiles appear differently. Ceramic is the next best option to natural tooth structure. Although porcelain veneers are bonded with the same material as composite veneers, porcelain veneers use the same material in a liquid form.
This video shows a Smile Makeover that involved three Veneers and a Crown.

The right Central Incisor was lost due to a fracture and was replaced with a dental implant. Following the proper healing time, the dental implant was replaced with a crown and the adjacent teeth were restored with three veneers. The work was performed after bleaching the remaining teeth so the shades of the restorations matched the new color of her teeth.
