| What are the different types of Microscopic Endodontics and what are they used for? Los Angeles |
The word Endodontics comes from the Greek words “endo," which means inside and “odons” which means tooth. Endodontics or “root canal” treatment is a relatively new type of treatment for teeth with diseased or injured roots. The root refers to the tooth pulp (which contains the nerves, venules, arterioles, lymphatic and fibrous tissue) which can become diseased or injured. Subsequent to the disease or injury, without treatment the pulp tissue dies. If the dead tissue is not removed the tooth will also decay and require removal. Endodontic treatment will help to save the tooth while cleaning out the diseased or injured tooth pulp.
There are times when root canal therapy is not enough. In the instance when a big caries forms and damages the dental structure and impedes tooth reconstruction or when the support for the periodontal is weak or when the crown or its root has been fractured alternatives to root canal therapy is required.
The most unattractive form of alternative treatment to root canal therapy or endodontic treatment which is considered a last resort today is the extraction of the relevant tooth. This will adjust the whole dental structure by leaving room for adjacent teeth to move resulting in a host of complications that will follow. The fix prosthesis (fix bridge) which replaces an extracted tooth is another option. This entails a traditional replacement. When adjacent teeth (pillars) are affected by fillings or caries the fix prosthesis can be utilized. The third option is dental implants. The first part of this procedure entails microscopic endodontics by introducing a metallic root in to the bone to replace the original now dead and cleaned out root. This procedure is called osseointegration which is a biological procedure which may take six to twelve months. The second part is replacement of the original tooth crown with a clinical prosthetic crown.
Further, endodontist surgery will be performed to include repairing an injured or damaged root, dividing a tooth in half, or removing one or several roots at the same time. There is a procedure called replantation which allows the tooth to be removed, treated while its out of the patient’s mouth and replaced.
The procedure known as Osseointegration is the direct structural and functional connection between the surface of a load bearing artificial implant and the living bone. The artificial implant is usually made out of titanium. The property is unique to titanium and hydroxylapatite and is considered an enhancement to the joint replacement technique and the science of medical bones. |
