Dr. Bella Doshi is a Dentist who has answered some of the common questions bizymoms visitors have about Oral Health.
Q. What are the signs of oral cancer?
A. There are several signs of oral cancer and we routinely do an oral cancer screening at every hygiene and check up appointment. Our oral cancer screening at each examination appointment includes an intraoral screening as well as a head, neck and extra oral skin examination. A few examples of signs of possible oral cancer can include. but are not limited to, ulcers in the mouth or on the tongue that do not heal, abnormalities in tissue texture and appearance,or chronic areas of soreness or bleeding. Due to the increase in the prevalence of oral cancer, I also offer a special oral cancer examination using Vizilite which is an oral lesion identification and marking system that utilizes a chemiluminescent light source to improve the identification of suspicious or cancerous lesions. Oral cancer can be treated successfully with early detection.
Q. What is root canal treatment?
A. A root canal treatment consists of removing the decay and bacteria from the tooth structure, removing the nerve tissue from the canals within the tooth, and then cleaning and shaping the canals of the tooth and filling them with a medicated treatment.
Q. Are there alternative treatments for root canal?
A. The alternative to performing a root canal on a tooth would unfortunately be to extract the tooth.
Q. Why is Crown and Bridge Treatment necessary?
A. A crown is necessary on a root canaled tooth in order to protect the remaining tooth structure from fracturing and to seal the tooth to avoid bacteria from penetrating and reinfecting the tooth.
