Budget shortfalls at the state level forced Littleton Public Schools to make some very tough decisions. The district had to make major cuts. Many teachers lost their jobs. Class size was increased substantially. The district proposed a ballot measure, Referendum 3A, to allow a mill levy increase to support Littleton Schools. The passing of Referendum 3A will cost each district homeowner a meager $16 per year on each $500,000 of property value.
Many times people who do not have school children are not willing to vote in favor of mill levy increases. I am extremely thankful that Littleton citizens voted in favor of Referendum 3A. The future of Littleton Schools depends on quality education for our children, and the passing of Referendum 3A preserved the education that makes our community one of the best areas to live in and raise a family.
This year, besides being extremely thankful for having a great husband, wonderful healthy children, a great home, a teaching job, and robust health, I am thankful for the citizens of Littleton who voted in favor of Referendum 3A. To you all, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you! Your votes ensured that Littleton Public Schools will continue to thrive and our children and grandchildren will reap the benefits. Happy Thanksgiving to all!
