Teeth Whitening: How it Works Little Rock

Teeth whitening. How it works

Teeth whitening is a popular cosmetic procedure which has limitations and drawbacks and is not for everyone.
Most people have some amount of discoloring in their teeth caused by consumption of coffee, tea, wine or cola, which can be treated by teeth whitening procedures.  Given below are some of the teeth whitening methods and how it works.
1)      Whitening Toothpastes:
The most popular whitening products and methods is the use of teeth whitening toothpastes.
How does it work?
Most of the whitening toothpastes use hydrogen peroxide or other whitening agents in very small quantities to remove stains. The success of teeth whitening technique is based on the amount of time the bleaching agent is in contact with the teeth and also the concentration of the bleaching agent that is being used. Since the quantity of bleach in tooth paste is very low and remain in contact with the teeth for a short duration, the result will also be minimal.
2)      Over the Counter Teeth Whitening:
This procedure is more effective and expensive than toothpaste. These products come in the form of mouth trays, whitening strips or applications to be painted on teeth, which can be bought from  grocery and drug stores.
How do they work?
This is a convenient option as it can be done at home.  However, it is not sometimes not easy to follow directions nor reach the back of the teeth for application. The procedure uses bleaching gel in low concentration. The strips, trays or paint  is put on for 60 minutes a day. Most people will experience a decrease in several shades , especially in the front teeth.
3)      Kiosk Whitening:
Whitening services are offered across the nation at kiosks, located in malls. They claim that their services are professional at fraction of the cost. This procedure is a combination where you can do it by yourself and also a professional  technique. This procedure has been severely criticized by health authorities and the American Dental Association.
4)      How do they work?
The material is first given to the client to make an impression of the teeth. When the trays are ready, the client will fill them with peroxide bleaching gel, which has a lesser concentration than what is prescribed by dentists. Thereafter, the client inserts the trays into the mouth, and the whitening assistant follow-up with an application of the accelerator lights. The results vary according to the candidate with some kiosks making claims that their success rate is almost 93%. This technique has however caused much concern to health authorities as the staff has not undergone any accredited dental training. They do not have the knowledge to investigate for cavities, cracked teeth or dental disease which will be aggravated with the use of bleaching gels.
5)      Professional Take Home Trays
This technique is used at home, usually under the supervision of a dentist. This procedure is very effective and is considered good.
How it works:
A mold of the teeth is made by the dentists in the office and creates custom-fitted trays to fit each arch of the mouth. The customer takes this home and fills the trays with peroxide bleaching gel and places them over the teeth. The duration to have the gel on the teeth and the results that can be expected will be determined by the concentration of the peroxide. Some people will use the trays for 30 to 90 minutes for a day, for a period of two weeks, while others may wear the trays overnight for 1 to 2 weeks. The dentists will conduct periodic tests during this period to ascertain whether there is any sensitivity to gel. The results from this technique last for years, with a retouch if the teeth start staining again. Though the procedure can be time consuming, the results obtained are good and long term.  This costs less than professional in-office treatment.
6)      Professional In-Office Whitening:
The above technique is administered at house by a dentist and are the easiest and a painless method of teeth whitening.  There are two types of in-office bleaching:

Light activated bleaching which produces 9 shades of improvement in 60 minutes with the assistance of laser or LED-powered light.
Non light activated bleaching uses advanced bleaching gels and several procedures. This technique can be completed by a single visit, while the `deep bleaching’ will take two visits and an at-home tray whitening in between the visits. The deep bleaching has more advantages than other methods with significant improvements with hard to remove stains caused by tetracycline. The effect will last for several years and maintenance is easy with recommended toothpaste and mouth wash.

How it works:
The higher concentration of bleach is more effective when in contact with the teeth, providing the maximum whitening. The mouth tray technique seals the bleaching agent on the teeth and when kept overnight, it allows a longer period of contact of the bleach to the teeth providing good results which will last for approximately 3 to 4 years.
