A.    A tummy tuck is a hospital procedure, which involves removing excess skin, including stretch marks of the lower abdomen.

 

Q.    How is a tummy tuck performed?


A.    The abdominal wall is tightened to improve the overall tone and the belly button is re-shaped to a more aesthetic contour.  Liposuction is frequently performed at the same time.


Q.    Is anesthesia used during the tummy tuck procedure?


A.    The surgery is performed under general anesthesia  and patients may stay overnight after the procedure.  Patients may shower the next day and may even be able to lift their babies.


Q.    Are there risks and complications to a tummy tuck?


A.    The risks are minor, but include scarring, fluid collection, and wound-healing problems, which heal with dressing changes.


Q.    How much does a tummy tuck cost?


A.    The cost is $3500-5500.


Q.    How long do the results of a tummy tuck last?


A.    The results are long lasting. Skin and body tissue will age naturally  and may change with body weight fluctuation.
