Ingredients
4 cups water (filtered tastes best)
3 regular tea bags (English Breakfast Tea, Orange Pekoe, Darjeeling, or Earl Grey)
2 cinnamon sticks
6 cardamom seeds
3 whole cloves
6 black peppercorns
1/4 teaspoon fresh grated nutmeg
1/2 inch thinly sliced fresh ginger
1 cup plain or vanilla soymilk
4 teaspoons honey or maple syrup
Let’s Get Mixing
1. Place water, tea bags and all spices in large saucepan over medium heat and bring to boil. Reduce heat and simmer 10-15 minutes.
2. Remove from heat and add soy milk. Return to cook top and heat another 5 minutes until steaming. Remove saucepan from heat.
3. Pour Chai through a large strainer into a teapot. Stir in honey or maple syrup to taste and serve.
4. Chai can be covered and refrigerated for up to one day. Delicious when served cold over crushed ice.
Batter Up Kids-friendly Kitchen Tips:
1. If serving warm Chai Tea, let children garnish their individual cup with a dollop of whipped cream and a dash of assorted sprinkles.
2. When serving chilled Chai Tea, let the children choose different small fruits to garnish their drinks. Skewer 2-3 fruits on a plain or fancy toothpick and insert on top of drink. |
