Largest city in Missouri, Kansas city is Situated at the convergence of the Kansas and Missouri Rivers. It is the nation's 36th largest city in population (441,500) and the 13th largest in land area ( 319 square miles). The average temperature of Kansas City is forecasted at 54.6° F and ranges from 29° F during January to 78° F in July.


The History of the Kansas City Metropolitan Area dates back to the 1800s. The Kansas City Metropolitan Area, straddling the border between Missouri and Kansas at the confluence of the Kansas and Missouri rivers, was a good place to build several settlements. Kansas City, Missouri (KCMO) was incorporated in 1850 on the banks of the Missouri River. Kansas City, Kansas (KCK) formed in 1868 and incorporated in October 1872.


Kansas City boasts more fountains than any other city except Rome and more boulevards than any except Paris. Its 1,769-acre Swope Park is one of the largest urban parks in America. Major sports spectators can enjoy baseball with the Royals, football with the Chiefs, and NASCAR racing at Kansas City's recently built speedway. However, Kansas City is perhaps best known for its steaks, barbecue and jazz. With more than 60 barbecue restaurants and numerous cookoff competitions, it is arguably the nation's barbecue capital. Kansas City became a hotbed of jazz shortly after World War I in the now-famous area around 18th & Vine. Jazz is undergoing a renaissance here, a factor in the Kansas City Jazz Museum, a complex that also includes a Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.
