Keeping your Options Open: your career path
What is the key to my career path?” you may wonder…well, keeping your career options open is the key! Surprised eh? Well most workers don’t know what type of jobs they should look for, or even those who are working have no clue about which direction their careers are heading. A few years or even decades ago, career paths were determined by managers. but now, it’s something you have to design for yourself!

In an environment where the economy is drowning and people are losing their jobs, how can someone turn towards employment or believe in moving higher up the ladder from his current position to a management role and then maybe to a much larger company and eventually to a position at an industry level? Any “happening” and “job savvy” individual has to realize that creating and following a career path has changed from the times when it was a planned hike on a hiking track. It’s now a marathon plunging into the wilderness with everything except a compass on hand.

Just because you take control of your own career path doesn’t mean that you will positively get a job or that your job will be ABSOLUTELY perfect. All said and done, the risks still persists. However, being in charge of your career path means that you can plan escape routes from any dead ends that may come up in the future. Take decisions about a job, keeping in mind the potential options it will create. To keep options open, you should be marketable, ALWAYS! You can’t sit back and relax and HOPE to update your resume AFTER you land that fantastic job. Also learn to accept that perfection, as far as jobs are concerned, may just not exist. Read More

Have you seen people at work, school or even in your everyday life who seem to be so self confident, they just seem to rule over the entire world. Everything just seems to be perfect for these extraordinarily calm people. Well do you think it’s because they are smarter, richer or maybe even luckier? Wrong! This is all because self confident people believe in themselves and rely on their abilities, enabling them to create successful opportunities for themselves. So how can you learn to believe in yourself? A long journey always starts with a single step. Similarly, any notable victory or achievement has to start somewhere, sometime and in a small way. It might start off with a simple promise to yourself, or a dream, or even some encouragement from family or colleagues. A successful career is a long journey too, which you might think is unachievable. But small steps will take you great distances and in no time, you’ll be rocking in your job.
Although there HAD been strong economic growth in the past, with the recent downturn of the global economy, the labor market is performing extremely poor. Employment has expanded by just 50% of annual global targets. The numbers of unemployed people are on a high increase due to lack of job opportunities. Most of the working population seems to be rising from low-productivity and low-pay sectors. On the whole, industrial, construction and manufacturing sectors are bringing up figures showing “net job loss.” And most of the new jobs created in the global economy are part-time jobs and not the full-time jobs that many governments seem to be promising, but not creating. Seems a little overwhelming?! Nah! Not at all, if you get the basics right. Besides, starting a small business of your own opens up doors to a variety of things which you could do! So, tell yourself that you are going to start a small business which is not only going to be successful but is also going to be something which you love from the bottom of your heart. Think up a great business idea You’re going to spend a lot of time and energy bringing up your business and making it successful, so it’s absolutely essential that you enjoy and love what you do. Whether you are going to be selling fish rods or home-made glass work, you HAVE to love it! Do plenty of research while you work through your business plan.
