Expert Advice about Baby Sign Language and Baby Communication:sign language studies

Baby sign language is the concept of using sign language for communication with infant babies and toddlers. This concept has gained huge popularity as it has proved to be really successful in dealing and communicating with kids. Not only does it help in communicating, but it also helps in increasing the IQ levels of the kid as well as keeping the kid happy and content.

However, there are some important facts that parents should know when dealing with babies with the use of baby sign language. Explained in this article are some of the most important tips and advice provided by experts about baby sign language and baby communication.

As experts say, most babies start to communicate using sign language (that is, using bits of words and hand gestures) at the early age of five to six months. Until then, all they can do is listen to what we say and observe (see) what we do. So as adults, we should make it a point that appropriate language be used and good behavior be displayed, since that’s what registers in the minds of the kids.

Experts also advice parents to ask a lot of questions from their babies and get them to answer. The main reason behind this is because a baby would more often respond to these questions. The parent should then pay close attention to the responses and provide further feedback on it. When/if the child makes a mistake, correct it then and there. For E.g. A word incorrectly pronounced should be corrected at that very moment. This would make the baby realize what is wrong and practice right communication. It would also help him/her to gain better control over speech.

However, they say that a kid should not be taxed too much. In other words, they should not be burdened with signs and/or forced to use sign language (i.e. show or recite words, signs or symbols) since kids are kids (small) and they need time to learn. Trying to instill too much can build stress in their minds. So make them learn step by step and it would ensure the child becomes more intelligent and happy.

Experts also advise parents to pay close attention to the signs or gestures the kid shows, since the signs a kid could display/show is limited. Hence the signs showed to you would look almost alike. Proper identification and understanding of the signs would lead to the correct action being taken.

Another advise given by most experts is that a parent should use a very soft and tender (childish like) voice to communicate with the kid, since such a voice is more soothing and sounds full of love. This would delight the kid and he/she would put extra efforts to communicate with the parent.

Try out these tips with your kid. These are only some of the most prominent and practical advise (as well as proved to be true) given by child care experts. Take them into serious consideration as it would ensure the kid’s well being. Good Luck!
