How Sign Language Can Help

It is a fact that most parents nowadays use baby sign language to communicate with their kids. The main reason for this is because, baby sign language is perceived to be effective when it comes to communication with small kids and mainly because the use of it benefits both the kids and the parents in a number of ways.

Many people are still unsure as to how sign language could help kids and parents. This article aims to explain how and in what ways kids and parents benefit from it.

1. How Sign Language Can Help kids

It helps them to convey their wants and needs

Kids would be able to convey their wants and needs to their parents, which would not be an easy task if not for the concept of baby sign language.

It can help them increase their IQ levels

The use of baby sign language, which includes the use of signs and symbols, would ultimately help the child to figure out symbols with ease. This would increase the child’s mental ability and hence would increase their IQ levels. It is a fact that children who used signs when they were infants recorded a higher IQ when compared to their non-using counterparts.

It would also help them to be happy

Since their opinion is heard and acted upon and since their wants and needs are fulfilled, the child would be content and happy. A happy child would result in a happy home.

2. How Sign Language Can Help parents

It helps them to understand what the child wants

Baby sign language enables parents to better understand the wants and needs of the kid, which would not be the case if not for the concept of sign language. For E.g. A parent would know that a child is hungry if he/ she touches his/ her tummy and points toward his/ her mouth.

Helps in the building of a strong and firm relationship

The above factor would enable the parents to better communicate and help build a strong relationship with their kids. This is the case because the kids will know that the parents can understand their wants and needs and whenever they need something, all they need to do is communicate through sign language and the parent thereafter satisfies it. This gives the baby an assurance that the parents are there for them whenever they are in need, thus increasing the trust and reliability, leading to a strong bondage.

Less Tears and Tantrums

Since baby sign language helps parents to understand the needs of the kid, instances of tears and tantrums would reduce, thus reducing stress levels in the minds of parents.

These benefits that baby sign language provides both parents and kids are the main reason why it is adopted and used by many parents. Use baby sign language and help keep you (as a responsible parent) and your kid happy. Good Luck!
