One of the main reasons, if not the most important reason why many of us would like to work for the government rather than the private sector has got to do with ‘SERVICE’: Service for one’s country and fellow men. In short the opportunity to make a difference.
You may wonder, how are people able to help others through theirs jobs in the government sector?
Well, there are many jobs such as a police officer, security personal, military officers, judges, and teachers etc. who directly help others through their respective professions. But, when you’re working for the government sector, what one fails to realize is whether you’re directly involved or not, by working for the government, you will be helping others through your conduct.
For example, building engineers are not directly helping other people in their day to day profession. But it is important that they are dedicated and committed in providing quality results of their work as the buildings they build or bridges they put up must ensure safely and security for all its users.
Those who are in the field of health care are those directly involved in helping people while scientists and medical researchers who are looking for new medicines and cures for diseases are also helping people through their jobs to ensure better and healthier living.
There are many social workers who work towards feeding the hungry and sheltering the homeless with their many projects and charity funds. There are also those who volunteer as social workers to help those who are unable to help themselves.
Government banks and financial aid organizations help people through education, awareness and assistance in building their lives or improving lives of the less fortunate.
The government also spends a considerable amount of funds on state correctional facilities where the officers of those institutions work towards helping other individuals find ways for a better lifestyle.
Although most people may not realize even those who work on research and projects on the environment, marine life and even whether patterns are contributing to the overall need of the country and its people in finding ways of preserving the environment for the benefit of the people and the future of the country.
In the government sector, every job, if not all, is providing a service to the people of its country, to help people live better, healthier, safer and happier lives.
