Employment for Women:jobs for women:find a good job

Finding a suitable job is what every high school or college graduate would want. However, it would not be as easy as one thinks since the world business environment is becoming competitive and dynamic by the day. Not only that, even the candidates or applicants for those jobs are becoming more qualified and experienced, thus making it harder to find a job.

Some candidates are very well qualified and experienced, but still are left behind and unselected for a job. You would wonder why this is the case. Well, there are plenty of reasons, but one of the most common reasons is that they are discriminated. In other words, that is where somebody else who is less qualified is favored over the right candidate. This could be due to many reasons, and is explained in detail in this article.

Employment for Women:jobs for women:find a good job can be defined as an unreasonable treatment for a candidate due to many reasons such as his or her gender, age, race or nationality, and health condition or disabilities. An employee should not be discriminated at the time of recruitment, selection or dismissal. Also there should not be any discrimination when the terms of employment are offered or at times of assigning promotions, transfers, training, and other benefits. Listed below are some of the examples where people or employees are discriminated:

Discrimination Based on Gender

Women are considered to be the weaker sex, which is untrue and an unfair evaluation. Most employers tend to pay less for female employees. There are also cases where females are sexually harassed by their male superiors at work.

Discriminated Based on Age

Some older employees are discriminated based on their age since they are believed to be less competent when compared to their young counterparts. Hence, they are not selected for certain jobs and sometimes even fired from a job.

Discriminated Based on Race, Ethnicity or Nationality

This is something that you can observe in most organizations where people of ethnic minorities or different races are not selected for particular jobs, even if they have the necessary qualifications.

Discriminated Based on Health Conditions or Disability

There could be employees who are disabled (also called differently able) who could work better than their able counterparts but are still left behind since they are believed to be less competent, or even because their presence portrays an unhealthy team of employees.

Due to such reasons, most people find it difficult to get employed and hence suffer from stress, mental collapse and anxiety. This is why governments have passed certain laws and legislations to protect those employees from being discriminated. The policy of Equal Opportunities is what protects those who are prone to be discriminated. The main objective of equal opportunities is to treat all employees equally and not discriminate. Those legislations are explained in brief below.

Equal Pay Act

According to this Act, if two persons are doing the same work equally well, they should receive equal pay and not be discriminated.

Sex Discrimination Act

It is unlawful to discriminate a person on grounds of gender / sex. If the employee feels that there is discrimination, then there is a grievance. This can be reported to the immediate superior or to the highest authority, but if no action is taken, the employee can claim relief under this act. The affected employee could therefore claim a legal remedy against his or her employer.

Race Relations Act

Under this act, it is unlawful to discriminate on grounds of color, race, ethnicity, or nationality.

Disability Discrimination Act

An employer or colleagues are not allowed to humiliate, harass or embarrass their disabled counterparts as it could be accounted as discrimination based on that individual’s disability.

With the following legislations and laws in place, it would be easier for all employees and it would ensure that there are minimal instances of Employment for Women:jobs for women:find a good job at the workplace.
