In the past most people used to consider working for the government of their respective countries as the ideal job, as there were not many private sectors which were established. This had become a norm and as a result people lived with a conception that government jobs are better than working for the private sector. However, in the recent years with the private sector playing a major role in a country’s economy and offering better job opportunities and benefits, it is found that people are willing to and happy to apply for job vacancies in the private sector.
However, one would still wonder, why is it that most people willingly choose to get a government job over a position in the private sector?
One of the main reasons for wanting to work for the government would be job stability. Government jobs are known to provide job security and stability while allowing one to work for a greater cause that is more or less directly affective in the country their residing in.
There are also a variety of jobs and areas to choose from, hence once you’ve established yourself in a government job, you’re able to find a job which requires different skill sets.
Due to the demand of better skilled, experienced and knowledgeable individuals and the fact that most private sectors are offering better salaries, government sectors have significantly revised their salary scales to match with the current market value for each job role so that they are able to find the correct and best suited candidate from the selection pool. So, no longer does one have to worry about poor or lesser pay in a government job.
One of the main plus points of choosing a government job is the opportunity to be eligible for retirement funds. This is one major fact which needs to be considered when applying for a government job or leaving one for that matter as this is the only type of job where you will be given retirement funds for the rest of your life, after retirement and will generally be revised based on country’s economic status.
Another important fact is that most government jobs, if not all, offer to pay the employees higher education fees if the qualification or education gained by the employee adds value to the job role that they are doing. However, this depends on their job role and the kind of contract the employees are under, which needs to be carefully understood beforehand.
