A long journey always starts with a single step. Similarly, any notable victory or achievement has to start somewhere, sometime and in a small way. It might start off with a simple promise to yourself, or a dream, or even some encouragement from family or colleagues. A successful career is a long journey too, which you might think is unachievable. But small steps will take you great distances and in no time, you’ll be rocking in your job.
Do more
Doing more than you are expected to do is often deemed to be extremely difficult by most people, since it needs that wee bit of extra time and effort. But realistically speaking, there are plenty of those small things which could be tagged as “extra work” with no expenditure of time or effort. Speak up at your next office meeting, go prepared for it. Take time off to help your overly burdened coworkers in small tasks…think up of easy things to help your company and do them if you can, just go beyond your line of duty.
Taking Credit
If you’ve done something worthwhile and good, accept the praise and the rewards which come along with it. But don’t walk around pompously boasting about what you’ve done, in case there has been no public announcement of your achievements. NO ONE NEEDS TO KNOW. Such behavior could make you look obnoxious amongst your colleagues and people who complimented you might consider taking it back.
Be Gentlemanly or lady-like
Work in a way which makes people WANT to respect you. Never command respect, “Give Respect and Take Respect” is an age old adage. Don’t be snobbish, instead be friendly and easy to communicate with. A gentleman (or lady) would act professionally in any situation and not be boisterous about their achievements or be dictator like, either. So watch out!
The above three are such simple acts, you’ll need to take absolutely no effort in doing it. What more, it’ll be noticed by your peers at work and by your boss too. Observing good etiquette will make you become more respectable and make you look like a leader in no time. These ideas will help to boost your career and take you places you never even thought of going. Just stick to these three golden principles…and guaranteed, you will be on your way to never ending success!!
