The Myth of Cord Blood Banking and Early Cord Clamping ~ Wendy Spry

Why Bank Cord Blood?

This blood is rich in hematopoietic stem cells which are pristine cells that have the ability to produce healthy tissue of many sorts and hold remarkable potential to treat and cure nearly 80 different diseases. Additionally, the future is incredibly bright for these amazing cells. Researchers are showing great promise in curing diseases like diabetes, cerebral palsy, autoimmune disorders, cancers, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, heart and lung disease, and even arthritis and spinal cord injuries.

With medicine beginning to take a cellular approach, scientists are showing how a person’s own stem cells, preserved at birth, can be reintroduced into his system and his body can use these cells to heal itself! In light of these incredible advances, all expectant families should strongly consider banking their baby’s cord blood. When choosing to bank these cells, you know that you have a 100% perfect genetic match for your baby, and potentially your other children, at the ready should your family ever need them.

Collecting your Baby’s Cord Blood…

The process of collecting your baby’s cord blood is a simple and painless one. When you contract with PacifiCord, we will provide you the collection kit that accompanies you to your delivery location. All the necessary supplies are included within your PacifiCord collection kit, and most care providers are well versed in our unique collection process.

Once your baby is born, it is important to allow him a gentle transition to his new life. During that time he will continue to receive oxygenated blood through his umbilical cord. We recommend that the cord be allowed to continue delivering this blood until it stops pulsating. This ensures that he has adequate time to learn to breathe and circulate on his own. After respecting your baby’s transition… or even after your placenta delivers, your care provider will then carefully remove the remaining blood from the placenta and umbilical cord. This simple process takes about five minutes.

After your collection is complete, notify PacifiCord that your baby has arrived and one of our couriers will come to your birth location and transport the kit to our lab for processing and long term storage.
