Liz: Can you tell us a little about yourself?

Christy: Sure! I am a wife and mother of 2, one girl (4) and one boy (2). I have been a stay at home mom for 4 1/2 years now. I have loved sign language since I was 4 years old myself (I fell in love with it while watching Linda Bove on Sesame Street.), but I never dreamed I'd use it as a home based business. After searching for a couple years, I found Kindersigns and immediately knew I had found the right business for me. It was a perfect fit. My hobbies are singing, sign language, drama, reading, and the Internet.
Liz: What attracted you to the kit? Had you heard of signing to hearing babies prior to seeing the Kindersign website?
Christy: I had never heard of signing with babies. I couldn't believe all of the amazing benefits. It just sounded amazing, so I couldn't wait to try it in my own home.
I was attracted to the kit because I had just had my own little girl and found that she seemed frustrated a lot...she was really a high maintenance baby. I was intrigued at the business, but I also wanted to see if it worked. I was very pleased with the results I had with my daughter (who actually began learning at 18 months), so I decided I'd like to try it with my son from a younger age when I had him.
I have had two amazing experiences with sign language in my own family and am very excited to be able to share that with other parents who might be seeking answers.
Liz: What type of support did you have from your family about starting your business?
Christy: My husband supported me immediately. He had known of my passion for sign language and thought this was my perfect fit. He is very excited for me and has believed in me more than I believed in myself. My friends that know me well also support me and agree that this is a perfect fit. They can't wait to see how well my business goes. They've already said that when they have kids, they'll be my customers.
Liz: Did you have any personal doubts about starting this business?
Christy: I did. I had tried other things in the past and failed. I was so concerned that I would make a mistake and fail miserably. I had to take some time (3 years) to get comfortable with signing, teaching it, and telling others about it. I am comfortable talking about it now and have faith that it is going to be very successful. I have never doubted the Kindersigns course, however. I love this course! I think it is the best! I can't imagine parenting without it now.
Liz: You accomplished something pretty exciting. Can you talk about your class you're having?
Christy: Yes! I am very excited that I have my first customer interested in an e-workshop. When thinking about how I wanted to run my business, I knew I wanted to reach more than my immediate area and so I decided to find a way to take my business to the Internet.
I decided to have e-workshops, which would be in the form of a chat. These are just like a regular workshop, only they will be held over the Internet so I can reach a bigger market. I am very excited to have my first e-workshop customer. We are in the process of getting her scheduled right now.
She has looked over my site and has loved what she has seen and is very excited about teaching her infant Baby Sign Language. She found my site through my eBay auction site. She contacted me to ask about my site, located my site, and we have been talking ever since. She can't wait to get started! I am very excited to be getting the ball rolling. She has also signed up for my e-newsletter.
Liz: Anything you'd like to share with someone thinking of starting their own Kindersigns business?
Christy: Make sure that it is right for you and that you will love it, and then go for it. Kindersigns is the best way to go that I've seen on the Internet, personally, because Diane not only gives you a great course to market, but she gives you some great tools for getting started and marketing your business. Diane Ryan has definitely done a good thing!
