Why are baby teeth so important? Hopkinsville

Why are baby teeth so important?
Many parents are not aware of the importance of their babies teeth and do not pay much attention to taking care of them. Baby teeth are placeholders for permanent teeth. If the temporary teeth develop to be unhealthy, it is likely that the permanent teeth will also be unhealthy. If baby teeth are neglected it can cause severe problems. It is therefore, important for temporary baby teeth to be free of cavities and remain healthy. It is important to take care of your baby teeth as they are crucial for:

1.    A baby requires only milk at infancy and graduating to semi solid by 6 months. Baby teeth helps the baby to chew the food at the stage when the baby graduates to semi solid and solid food. The baby will require a variety of food of different tastes and textures for a balanced diet. The first part of digestion of certain types of food takes places in the mouth and chewing will help to break the food to sizes that are easily digestable. If the child swallows the food without chewing properly, it will prolong the process of digestion. On the other hand, if your child swallows without chewing at all, your child could get choked.  If the baby is unable to eat due to lack of teeth, it will cause severe health complications, including malnutrition. Baby teeth are important for proper feeding and nutrition contributing tremendously to the overall health of the baby.
2.    Healthy baby teeth help the baby in speech development.
3.    Healthy pretty teeth are essential to build self confidence and self esteem. This is very important at an early age where young children can be insensitive to one another and tease about their decayed and not well formed teeth.
4.    Baby teeth are space maintainers for permanent teeth and remain underneath until the permanent teeth are ready to emerge through the gums. At this stage the roots of the baby teeth dissolve and the baby teeth becomes loose and falls out. Few weeks later, the permanent teeth comes out and will remain for the rest of one’s life or until it is removed by a dentist or lose through an accident. When the space is reserved by baby teeth, it helps to guide the permanent teeth to emerge and be well-aligned. This will help the child to eat a healthy well-balanced diet.
5.    Like all parts of the body, jaw muscles require exercise to help the jaws to develop. A baby’s jawbone develops due to sucking as an infant and then chewing when the baby is old enough eat solids.
Baby teeth are important to the overall development of the baby and good care will help to nurture a healthy society.
